I think everyone is born with talent, babies are capable of anything. By NOT learning people lose their ability to easily pick up "talents". Of course people do have genetic dispositions towards things, but I think there is a lot of potential talent wasted by not taking early childhood education seriously.

aw come on.... you can get talent anywhere. costco sometimes has it in those
big combo packs, six cans for 12 dollars. my mom get mine for me, since i am not a member. if yer really industrious you can make it yourself, but be careful with it
cause, its waaaay stronger than the stuff you get at costco....too much may cause
"creative behavior" which is a whole bag O worms unto itself...next thing you know you'll be painting see thru bulldogs.... its all downhill from there.

Talent, as I see it, is 80-90% genetic. The initial inclination towards a particular activity and a reletively pronounced aptitude for it is almost always recognized, if at all, within the first few years of life. So the initial 'spark' is there without any effort on anyones behalf. However, that 'spark' needs to be tended to in order to reach it's full potential. So many child prodigies reach adulthood as mediocre talents because they weren't tutored and never practiced. Motzart's father drove him to near exhaustion when he was as young as 5. So, in essence, I say that a full blown talent is largely due to genetics with a desire, practice and effort to hone that particular skill.

Being that such a large percentage of an ability comes free and clear without effort, I have to laugh at people who take great pride in the fact that they're slim or good looking, as if they willed it to be. You can bet that when they become wrinkled, fat and sick, they'll be sure to put the credit for those attributes somewhere else.
So, I paint, and very well I might add, however I can't puff myself up with pride about that any more than I can for being short. Yes, I've practiced being short and worked on it for many years but the genic code was already conducive to that end.

And if you really want to see talent......pull my finger.

i think.....
your born with it.
if your not born with it, you cant buy it or steal it or even pretend you have it
.... well there are some, perhaps many who pretend... but they still cant.... even tho they think they can? strangely enough.. you can have it but not belive you do?
if your born with it, not even you can stop it, but sometimes it goes away on its own.
but it always returns, whether your ready or not...dragging you along behind it
as it goes on its merry mission... whatever the hell that may be.
